Hello all!
I have returned from the land of tapas and sangria! Although the trip was filled with fun and memories, I am certainly glad to be back in Vienna. Here’s a quick recap of the past 8 days I spent in Spain:
Due to planning the majority of the trip (booking flights and hostels), nerves were running pretty high for me as we headed to the airport early in the morning. Fortunately, we made it through security and passport control safe and sound. After rushing to get to the gate, we were lucky enough to have an hour flight delay! Yay!
Finally we arrive in Madrid and we are automatically scooted into the Real Madrid stadium for a soccer match. Initially, I was under the impression that we would be placed in the nose-bleed section, simply because those are the cheapest tickets ($250.) However, we plopped down merely NINE rows away from the field. I could literally make out Cristiano Ronaldo’s facial features. It was unbelievable, needless to say!
Directly after we had our first ever experience with the famous tapas and sangria! The croquettes, the patatas bravas, and the paella… So delicious and worth the calories! The city of Madrid is absolutely beautiful and the architecture is very different from that of Vienna.
After a wonderful 3 days of exploring in Madrid, we ventured off to Ibiza, an island off the coast of Spain. With the beautiful beaches and endless sangria, the following 3 days were full of memories and sunburns. Unlike what I am used to in the states, many, if not all, of the beaches in Ibiza are top-optional. We were slightly taken aback at first, but eventually got used to the free-will attitude of Spain.
Of all the cities in the world, Barcelona is considered one that you must visit. And I did! However, unfortunately for me, my experience was not particularly top notch. Though my wallet was lost amongst the crowds in a club, I still had the opportunity to walk around and tour the area. I will say Barcelona is a beautiful city. We trekked to the top of the hill where Park Güell is located. The view of the entire city of Barcelona was absolutely breathtaking. It truly makes you feel invincible to see everything around you, all the way to the horizon.
Though my favorite was Madrid, everywhere in Spain was wonderful and my experiences were unforgettable. Even though I speak Spanish and not German, I am certainly glad to be back in Austria. Vienna, you were missed!
